CRP Enrollment Paused While U.S. Farmland Values Remain Steady

October 30, 2026

“There are some options out there. The ALE (Agricultural Land Easements) program is an easement to keep farmland and stop urban sprawl…if you do have marginal land, potentially put it in one of these easements. There’s some money there if [your property] qualifies. Rents are still strong whether that’s ag leases or a combination of grazing hay leases or even recreational leases. There are a lot of factors there, but the overall rent market seems to be holding strong like the land prices,” stated Arkansas Land Broker Jeramy Stephens regarding the pause to CRP enrollment and alternative options for landowners during an interview earlier this week on RFD-TV.

Stephens discussed the ongoing pause in new Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) contracts, potential Farm Bill changes, and what landowners can do while waiting for a legislative decision. Despite uncertainty surrounding conservation programs and continued financial pressures on producers, limited farmland inventory continues to support land values.

He also highlighted alternatives for landowners, including conservation easements, agricultural leases, and recreational leases, emphasizing that opportunities remain available for those who understand their property’s potential.
