We ARE the Land Industry: Cailein Campbell
At NLR, We are flexible and coachable.
Have you ever gone into a meeting, classroom or even an interview thinking you already knew everything there was to know about what was being discussed or asked of you? It’s something that happens to everyone at some point or another, and it’s something that can even happen subconsciously.
Cailein Campbell knows this to be true. But the two things that help him consistently stay flexible and coachable in his personal life and in his career as a land professional are, “staying humble and keeping an open mind.”
Cailein has been practicing that method for many years in his career as a student, as a United States Navy Sailor, and as a Land Broker in North Carolina. So, when we asked him to tell us about a time he chose to remain flexible and coachable, he had a great experience to share.
“While in college, I was selling land and I remember taking a negotiation class my senior year. Going into the class, I had already been negotiating land deals for several years; however, I kept an open mind and wanted to learn. I learned so much more in that class than I thought I would and it was because I stayed flexible, put my ego away, and became coachable.”
Likewise, when we asked him what his one piece of advice to any new agent or broker would be, he said:
“You don’t have to be in a classroom to learn. Always listen and be willing to hear others’ opinions and thoughts on things, even things you may feel you know more about.”
“You never know who you can learn from. My grandfather never met a stranger. He taught me you don’t know people’s stories and someone’s perception may be different from yours- that doesn’t mean you’re wrong or they’re wrong; life is subjective, and we can be coached by those that are different from us.”
Cailein certainly exemplifies this integral statement in our culture here at NLR. To him, “Culture is like a team. It’s a collective of individuals that share similar beliefs, values or life circumstances. NLR’s culture is synonymous with team. I feel like we are a group of individuals that share not just the same career field, but have similar interests. I feel like I am totally immersed in NLR’s culture.”
