As we continue our effort of being more transparent with our customers, clients, friends, and family, with things such as our culture blog series, we wanted to share another integral piece of who we are.

At National Land Realty (NLR), we care about each and every one of our team members and their families. That’s why Jason Walter, our CEO, decided to team up with Corporate Chaplains of America (CCA), an organization that provides a strong support system for our NLR family.

“We care about our people not just at a professional level but at a personal level too, and so we wanted to bring the chaplains in to offer that personal care for our employees,” Jason said.

CCA is a non-denominational ministry with over 200 chaplains across the country who go into corporate America to offer care to employees. They have regular rounds but are also available 24/7 by phone to respond to any crisis.

Lacy Peacock, a certified chaplain who has been with CCA for 10 years explained, “It’s not if, but when, we will all go through a crisis. When someone is going through a hard time, they have to carry that burden to work. It is important for them to know that there is someone available to help them during and after work hours.”

Chaplains assist with hospital, family and marriage care, substance abuse, stress management, and impersonal conflicts. They are certified to enter jail facilities, emergency rooms, and accident scenes. “Everything is confidential and permission-based, and participation is always voluntary, ” Lacy said. All chaplains have business workplace experience, a well-rounded educational background, including Bible or seminary training, as well as custom CCA training and certification.

“I absolutely love being a chaplain. We each go through highs and lows in our lives. It is a joy to be able to walk alongside others during these times. Our desire is to love and care for each employee and their families right where they are, no judgment and with complete confidentiality. We also offer many resources that have been proven helpful for our clients.”

At National Land Realty, we have several offices that have a chaplain come in every other week or every month to check in and chat with team members. CCA also does a monthly online bible study with us and with teams all across the country where team members can join in and listen. The bible studies are completely voluntary and often have focused initiatives.

CCA also offers several resources in addition to giving care. If someone experiences a death in the family, CCA offers books and/or bibles – anything on encouragement. Chaplains send out weekly communication by text or email with words of encouragement for the week that employees can respond to and they are also available to reach out to extended family.

“I would encourage any organization to have chaplains in their company, so their employees are taken care of,” said Jason. “We’ve seen their involvement with our employees grow each month, especially as we bring on more people. I think it’s a great way to let employees and partners know that a company cares a lot more than just what they’re doing at work.”
