I was watching an episode of \u201cShark Tank\u201d recently and heard something that struck a chord. I don\u2019t usually watch reality TV, but this is one show that I have found is not only entertaining, but also educational.<\/p>\n

If you haven\u2019t seen the show, then you\u2019ve been living a life of seclusion (and I\u2019m impressed that you\u2019re reading this blog post). Here\u2019s the gist: aspiring entrepreneurs come on the show to pitch their product or idea to a group of highly successful multi-millionaires and billionaires. The \u201csharks\u201d then decide to either invest in the start-ups or devour the hopes and dreams of the overly enthusiastic entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n

It obviously serves as entertainment, but if you pay close attention you can actually learn a thing or two. Like what it takes to be self-employed or how to give an impactful presentation. Each shark brings a unique perspective to the show but there is one \u201cshark,\u201d Mark Cuban, that stands out above the others (the \u201calpha-shark,\u201d if you will).<\/p>\n

In the episode I was watching there was an entrepreneur giving her pitch and the sharks were asking the usual questions. Cuban asked her a question that I haven\u2019t stopped thinking about. The question was \u201cWhat is your grind?\u201d She seemed puzzled, so he explained. The grind, as he put it, is the one thing that you are willing to do that your competition isn\u2019t. It was like a lightbulb turned on in my head when I heard it – and I\u2019ve been wrestling with it ever since.<\/p>\n

So, what is your <\/em>grind? What do you do as a land professional<\/a> on a day to day basis that is uniquely different from everyone else? What sets you apart from those in your industry who are content with the procedural norm?<\/p>\n

It could be hand-written notes, sending gifts, or using social media to create brand awareness. It might be attending conferences or classes to become an expert in your field. It can be absolutely anything, but the key is to have your goals in mind.<\/p>\n

As for the young entrepreneur on the show, her answer was, \u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d To which Cuban replied, \u201cI\u2019m out.\u201d So, don\u2019t make her same mistake. Find your grind that aligns with your goals and grow your opportunities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
