A recent baiting bill in Alabama that did not make it through the Senate could mean trouble for hunters who are unaware of its status.<\/p>\n

The baiting bill would allow Alabama hunters to use bait for deer and feral hogs. Sponsored by Rep. Jack Williams, the bill passed the House in late February of this year but died in the Senate, according to the Montgomery Advertiser.<\/p>\n

Alabama\u2019s current law on baiting, allows hunters to use supplemental feed (or bait), but only if the feed source is at least 100 yards away from the hunter and\u00a0out of direct line of sight.<\/p>\n

Williams believed there was still some questions about the law that went into effect this hunting season. So, his bill eliminated the distance and view requirement and proposed that hunters be required to buy a $15 annual license additional to a hunting license in order to use bait.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere have been some problems come up about just what out of sight means under the current law,\u201d Williams stated in the Montgomery Advertiser article. \u201cIs it out of sight when you can\u2019t see it from a stand, but you can see it from the ground? I just think this is a better way to go.<\/p>\n

The current baiting law\u00a0still remains in effect in Alabama. Make sure to follow all state and federal hunting regulations, and have a great season!<\/p>\n
