A new bill that recently went into effect now allows the director of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) to waive hunting and fishing license fees for individuals under 21 years of age who have been diagnosed with a terminal or life-threatening illness or injury, according to the SCDNR. It also allows for sport tag fees to be waived. The bill was signed by SC Gov. Henry McMaster on May 3, 2017.<\/p>\n

In South Carolina<\/a>, the annual fee for a freshwater fishing license is $10, and the annual hunting license fee is $12.<\/p>\n

To qualify for the waived hunting license fees, the individual must be sponsored by the Outdoor Dream Foundation. The South Carolina nonprofit gives terminally ill children across the country an opportunity to experience outdoor hunting or fishing adventures.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe support non-profit, charitable organizations like the Outdoor Dream Foundation who offer children with life-threatening illnesses the opportunity to experience hunting and fishing in our state,\u201d said SCDNR Maj. Jamie Landrum in an article posted on the SCDNR website<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s a great way for us to give back to the people who support us.\u201d<\/p>\n
